WHAT BOB MEASURES
Six sensors. One tap.
Smartwatches contain the same sensors scientists use to study the ocean. Bob unlocks all of them — saving data to iCloud and making it shareable in seconds.
Location
L1 and L5 GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, QZSS, and BeiDou works seamlessly with local Wi-Fi and Bluetooth networks to provide latitude, longitude and altitude up to 10 meters accuracy.
Compass
Magnetic field measurements provide heading and orientation, to transform watch movement into a geographic reference frame.
Accelerometer
Three-axis acceleration captures human and ocean movement. The raw signal is the foundation for wave height estimation and motion analysis.

Water Quality
Water temperature and depth sensors vertically references underwater data with 0.1°C and 0.05 meters accuracy. (Ultra/Series 11/Series 10 only.)
Gyroscope
Angular velocity measures turning - and combines with accelerometer data to resolve watch orientation and track complex 3D movement.​

Barometer
Atmospheric pressure provides context for water conditions - and a complementary signal for wave period estimation.

Tini Scientific is currently using Bob to collect and analyze ocean data from swimmers in Washington and California - building the aggregated dataset needed to develop wave and current forecasts from crowdsourced observations. Bob is the first step toward a scalable nearshore sensing network that returns timely, relevant, usable ocean data to anyone, anywhere.
